The Chemistry Department X-ray Facility was established in 1996 to provide single-crystal x-ray analysis services to members of the Chemistry Department and other users across the campus.  In 2003, analytical services were extended to include characterization of powder samples and the acquisition of 2 new instruments in 2011-2012 expanded characterization capability to non-ambient temperatures and thin films.

Samples can be submitted for total characterization by the director of the facility or graduate and undergraduate students may choose to work under the supervision of the director and carry out their own analyses.

Salem Hall is undergoing renovation until August 2018. The Chemistry Department X-ray Facility has been temporarily relocated to Wake Downtown, Building 60, Room 0602. This building is located at 455 Vine Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. X-ray Facility Contact phone: (336)702-1921
