New Chemistry Chair Announced

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Welker has agreed to serve in the important role as the Chair for a three-year appointment to begin July 1, 2014 and extending through June 30, 2017. I am also pleased to announce that Dr. Rebecca Alexander has agreed to serve as Associate Chair for the same three year term.

Dr. Welker is an outstanding teacher and scholar and is dedicated to the welfare of the Department of Chemistry. With his experience in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and in the Provost’s Office (and his external experience at the NSF), Mark has demonstrated the knowledge, character and vision necessary to guide and enhance the strength of the department.

I am also pleased that Rebecca Alexander has agreed to serve a three-year term as associate chair of Chemistry. Dr. Alexander is also an outstanding teacher and scholar. She has dedicated much service to the Chemistry Department and to the College, most recently with her service on the URECA Executive Board.

I am very confident that under Mark’s and Rebecca’s leadership, and the support of each of you, the Department of Chemistry will continue to develop and make many contributions to the education of our students and to the College.
