On Tuesday 2 April 2013, Classical Languages major Michael J. Hunter (’14) was one of four undergraduates to be awarded the prestigious G. W. Greene Scholarship. The G.W. Greene Scholarship is given by the Wake Forest chapter of Phi Beta Kappa (of which Mr. Hunter is a new member) to junior(s) with the highest academic average in the entire college. Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society. Its first chapter was founded at the College of William and Mary in 1776; the Wake Forest chapter, Delta of North Carolina, was chartered in 1941.

The Greene award was established in 1997 by Dr. and Mrs. W. Donald Moore in honor of Dr. Moore’s grandfather, the Rev. George W. Greene. Dr. Moore was in the first group of Phi Beta Kappa members to be inducted at Wake Forest.
