Steve Jarrett teaches cinema courses for the COM department, including film history and intro to film. He has also taught for the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program and the Lifelong Learning program at WFU. In addition to teaching, he manages the media production infrastructure for the department, including the television studio and editing spaces as well as the equipment room from which media production students may check out gear for use in completing class projects. He also works with the Wake TV student organization.
Research interests include early cinema (pre-sound), genre and cinema, and the relationship between the development of the motion picture industry and the development of cinema as an art form. Other interests include old radio (pre-television era), science fiction (literature), and music of all kinds. For several years Jarrett wrote a weekly newspaper column on older movies available on home video that ran in the Greensboro News and Record and the Hickory Daily Record.
