Real-Time Communication of Motion Through Bluetooth Low-Energy and Algorithmic Composition of Contrapuntal Music

CS seminar (CSC 781) will meet this Tuesday, September 6, from 5:00-6:00pm in Manchester 17. During this meeting Dr. Burg will discuss research opportunities in a presentation titled “Computing in the Arts”

Dr. Burg will describe two summer research projects that could be extended and combined:
Real-Time Communication of Motion Through Bluetooth Low-Energy and Algorithmic Composition of Contrapuntal Music
The overarching idea is to combine these two projects into a performance application where dancers hold phones that detect the dancers’ motion and acceleration and communicate the information to a Raspberry Pi, which in turn sends the data to a client computer that executes a music generating algorithm.  This is in the spirit of Dr. Burg’s “Computing in the Arts” NSF-supported project, which finds ways to apply computation to artistic and creative applications.

The seminar course is an opportunity for you to learn about possible thesis  (graduate and undergraduate-honors) and project topics. Note, the seminar series does not require any preliminary work or prerequisite courses. All are welcome to attend!
