The Documentary Film Program brings together the storytelling passion and experience of three former members of the nationally acclaimed Documentary Institute at the University of Florida and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Peter Gilbert.
Sandy Dickson, Cindy Hill and Cara Pilson, co-founders of the Documentary Institute, named one of Independent Magazine’s Top Ten Academic Documentary Programs, launched the Documentary Film Program at Wake Forest in 2010. Peter Gilbert joined the team as a full-time faculty member in 2012.
Attending the DFP will take you on a storytelling journey that provides you with an understanding of the traditions and craft of non-fiction film; the research, writing and production skills needed to tell important stories using a variety of technologies; and the entrepreneurial vision to support a sustainable career in the arts.
The DFP faculty has a proven track record of providing students with the critical and technical skills needed to shape their creative visions into compelling, award-winning and socially significant documentary films and transmedia projects.
