Critically Acclaimed Filmmaker Visits DFP

NicholsThe DFP is delighted to host independent filmmaker, and alum of our Florida program, Michael Beach Nichols on Wednesday, February 3.

Nichols’ critically acclaimed film, Welcome to Leith, debuted at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and screened at SXSW, Hot Docs, AFI Docs, and many other premiere festivals.  The film also aired on PBS’ Independent Lens and was released theatrically by First Run Features. His 2013 feature debut Flex is Kings premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Recently named one of Paste Magazine’s “20 Best New Filmmakers of 2015,” Nichols will discuss storytelling techniques and crowd source fundraising with the DFP students and screen Welcome to Leith on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at The Graduate School @ Brookstown, 200 Brookstown Avenue, Suite 304.

Cabin Creek Producer Visits DFP

DC1Award-winning Cabin Creek producer, and former student of the DFP faculty, David Cassidy will visit the DFP on October 21- 22.  Cassidy has produced documentary series and features with Barbara Kopple and Cabin Creek Films for over ten years. He most recently produced Running from Crazy which premiered at Sundance 2013. The film follows Mariel Hemingway, granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, as she strives for a greater understanding of her family history of suicide and mental illness.  Continue reading
