Secondary Education – Mathematics (9-12)

The following are the content courses required for completing the undergraduate minor.  The same or equivalent courses are required for admission to the Master’s program.

At the undergraduate level, prospective secondary mathematics teachers major in mathematics and minor in Education.

The Licensure minor is 30 hours and leads to a North Carolina teaching license. The Non-licensure minor, which does not include student teaching, is 18 hours.

The following courses in mathematics (32 hours) are required:

Math 112, 113, 121, 321, 331, 357, (211 or 311), and three other courses beyond 113.

At the graduate level, students complete the teacher licensure program in 13 months, including a semester of student teaching in a local high school.    Further information about the NSF-funded WINS program is available at
