Wake Forest University (WFU) in Winston-Salem, NC invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Engineering to begin in the spring semester of 2017. This is a newly approved department within the Undergraduate College at WFU. It is part of a larger cohort of programs in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering that will anchor the University’s undergraduate presence, referred to as Wake Downtown, in Wake Forest Innovation Quarter beginning in 2017.
This Department Chair position presents an exciting opportunity for an innovative and enterprising leader to build an undergraduate Engineering Department from the ground up at a top-30 ranked university. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline and should hold a senior appointment in a college, university, or institute. The candidate should have demonstrated a successful history of scholarship and teaching. Additionally, it would be helpful if the candidate will have demonstrated some previous administrative experience in an academic capacity. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a new undergraduate Engineering Department that operates within, and embraces, the Wake Forest culture as a leading collegiate university in the US. The new Department will be responsible for providing major and minor courses as well as for teaching lower-level courses to non-engineering majors, including first-year seminars on interdisciplinary topics connected to engineering.
