Creative Writing Minor

Overview of the Creative Writing Program

The Creative Writing Minor in the English Department at Wake Forest University offers students the opportunity to develop their skills in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction writing while becoming familiar with a diverse range of contemporary literature. Creative writing courses are conducted in a workshop setting where students receive feedback from one another and the instructor on their writing. Students also complete assigned writing exercises, read and respond to contemporary and historical texts, and engage in larger considerations of craft and theory. Our faculty members in creative writing are active fiction writers, poets, and writers of creative nonfiction who are committed to teaching the literary arts in innovative ways that foster the imagination and critical thinking. The Creative Writing Program hosts readings by both established and emerging visiting writers in the Dillon Johnston Writers Reading Series [1].

Creative writing courses are open to students minoring in Creative Writing as well as to students not minoring in Creative Writing. Students who declare a Creative Writing Minor receive first preference in enrolling in creative writing courses in the English Department during pre-registration periods.
