The Journalism Program is dedicated to educating students in the discipline and values of an independent press and its role in a free society. Students will learn and practice truthful, verified and comprehensive reporting, telling stories in a range of media for the public interest. In the spirit of Pro Humanitate, the Program also strives to support independent journalism locally and beyond through the work of its faculty and its students.
“We offer coursework for students who are interested in becoming journalists, teaching the principles and practice of journalism and some of the basic skills that the digital environment requires of young journalists. We also have a role to play in educating students who may not be interested in journalism as a career but understand the importance of journalism in our society and in our democracy.” Phoebe Zerwick, Program Director
