“Little kids make such cute mistakes when they talk. We know they’re still learning the language, so we tolerate their errors and chuckle at how funny they sound. Behind that chuckle is the assumption that the kids are getting it wrong because they just don’t know the rules yet. In fact, kids’ mistakes show they know a lot more about the rules than we think. Tiffany Judy is a native of South Dakota. In 2013, she completed her doctoral studies in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Here at Wake, Tiffany teaches courses in Spanish and Linguistics for the Romance Languages, the Graduate Program in Interpreting and Translation Studies and and the Interdisciplinary Linguistics Minor. Her research focuses on adult second language acquisition of Spanish and other languages. Recent and current projects include the acquisition of Spanish by native Farsi speakers and an edited volume examining the acquisition of Spanish by less-commonly studied languages published in February 2015!
