Recipient of the Gordon A. Melson Outstanding Master Student Award for 2018

Hongyi Jiang was  selected to be the recipient of the Gordon A. Melson Outstanding Master Student Award for 2018. Jiang’s selection was based on a careful review of credentials and those of the other nominees by a Graduate Council committee. Jiang’s record was regarded as superlative for each of the awards’ criteria.

The Gordon A. Melson Outstanding MS and PhD Student Awards are presented each year during the May Hooding & Awards Ceremony. Please consider nominating your graduating student for either the Gordon A. Melson Outstanding Master’s Student Award or the Gordon A. Melson Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.  At the beginning of the nomination process, graduate faculty will be sent a notice from the Graduate School asking for nominations.

The committee were impressed by your research considering local and global properties of complex networks, particularly related to the sampling and clustering of nodes. The committee understands that your work is timely and will have impact and importance not only for theoreticians working in complex systems, but also for applied scientists from a variety of fields, including medicine, public health and the social sciences. By all accounts, the committee hears that you are a creative, intelligent, forward-thinking and motivated mathematician, and we have no doubt that you will be very successful in your future endeavors.
