The Department of Music welcomes two Visiting Assistant Professors for 2018-19: guitarist Dr. Silviu Ciulei and musicologist Dr. Kate Storhoff.

A top prize winner in some of the most prestigious competitions in the world including the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and the Parkening International Guitar Competition, Dr. Ciulei is a world class performer as both a classical and flamenco guitarist. In 2011, he formed the Maharajah Flamenco Trio, which blends traditional Spanish rhythms with jazz, classical, and world music, and the group has toured extensively from Florida to New York. Dr. Ciulei graduated with his doctorate at Florida State University and was most recently Professor of Guitar at Furman University.

Dr. Storhoff received her Ph.D. this past spring also from Florida State University, where she taught undergraduate music history, music literature, popular music, and world music classes, and directed various Collegium Musicum ensembles. Her recent research focuses on the composer-conductor relationships in the contemporary wind ensemble community, women and the wind ensemble, and the wind ensemble and the expression of contemporary American culture, and she has presented her research at conferences of the Society for American Music and the College Music Society.
