Following his recent successful debut as Don Giovanni at Opera Colorado http://www.examiner.com/review/review-opera-colorado-s-don-giovanni, baritone Christopher Magiera (WFU ’05) will be appearing as Marullo in Verdi’sRigoletto at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, with Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the title role, on May 17-26: http://www.teatrosancarlo.it/play/show/stagione20122013/rigoletto
Chris made his operatic debut in 2005, as Enrico in the Wake Forest University modern premiere production of Manuel García’s L’isola disabitata. Soon after graduating from WFU, Chris was a grand finalist in both the Metropolitan Opera national auditions and Placido Domingo’s international Operalia competition. He has performed leading baritone roles with the Dresden Semperoper, the Bayerische Staatsoper, and the Santa Fe Opera. Last season, Chris received critical acclaim for his debut at the English National Opera, as the Captain in John Adams’ The Death of Klinghoffer, a role which he also performed with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.
