Carmen Pérez-Muñoz is a native of Sevilla (Spain) and has experience teaching a wide variety of courses on Spanish language, literature, and culture at all levels. She is interested in the application of language and culture learning to other disciplines, such as the health professions. At UNC Chapel Hill, she contributed to the creation and development of the nationally acclaimed CAMPOS program (Comprehensive Advanced Medical Program of Spanish) at the School of Medicine. She has also taught classes of Spanish for the health professionals at the UNC School of Public Health and A.T. Still University of Health Sciences. Apart from her pedagogical interest on Medical Spanish, Dr. Pérez-Muñoz researches the role of education in 19 th century Latin America, particularly within the frame of national identity development in the countries of the Andean region after their independence.
