Nicholas Wolters is Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages. Before joining the faculty at Wake Forest, he earned his MA in Spanish and French from the University of Delaware (2011) and completed his PhD in Spanish at the University of Virginia (2016). His teaching and research focus on modern Spanish peninsular literature and visual cultures (e.g. illustrated press, fashion, visual arts, film adaptations). His current book project explores tropes governing modern fantasies of masculinity in Spain–from the farmer to the Catholic priest–through readings of 18th- and 19th-century Spanish cultural products including advertisements, fashion, novels, and painting. His articles on these and related topics appear in Decimonónica, Romance Notes, and Hispanófila
