From researching regenerative medicine in Sweden to teaching in Vietnam, 11 Wake Forest students and recent graduates have been awarded Fulbright scholarships to go abroad during the 2013-1014 academic year. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program — the most prestigious international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government — offers opportunities for students and young professionals to conduct research or teach English in more than 155 countries worldwide. Carswell Scholar Alumnus named editor in chief of The Chronicle

Mike Riley, Carswell Scholar, ’81

The Chronicle of Higher Education Inc. has named Michael G. Riley (Carswell Scholar, ’81), editorial director of Bloomberg Government, to be its chief executive officer and editor in chief. He succeeds Philip W. Semas, who is retiring after 44 years at The Chronicle, the last 10 as president and editor in chief. Mr. Semas joined the company in 1969 as a reporter and later served as managing editor, founding editor of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and editor of new media. click here to read more

Alec Christian, a junior from Salem, Conn., who studies organic chemistry, was recently awarded a Goldwater Scholarship. Christian was selected as one of 271 math, science and engineering students from around the country to receive the award for the 2013-2014 school year. Click here to read more

International Career Panel and Networking Event

Four Wake alumni, who work in the field of international affairs, will return to campus on February 25. Their mission is to share advice with students interested in breaking into the field and to form a networking group where alums serve as resources for current and future students. It will be held in Greene 145, 4:00 – 5:30 PM. Co-sponsored by the Office of Personal and Career Development and the department of Political Science and International Affairs, the program will consist of a panel discussion, with opening remarks by Professor Tom Brister, followed by refreshments and individual networking by students.

Kara Peruccio, BA, Fulbright 2011

Kara A. Peruccio’s blog, Merhaba y’all, chronicles her nine months as a 2011-12 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Uşak, Turkey. Peruccio is a 2011 graduate of the College with a degree in history and minors in Italian and Women’s & Gender Studies. She hopes to be a resource for future Wake applicants to the Fulbright program.
