Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

221 – Introduction to Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (3 credit hours)

Interdisciplinary course that integrates materials from the humanities and the sciences. Topics include critical methods and practical solutions, history and theory of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, women and men in culture and society, and cross-cultural issues of gender, ethnicity, social class, disability, and sexual orientation. (CD, D)

From Mary Wollstonecraft to Beyoncé, and Frederick Douglass to Lupe Fiasco, we will read and watch the great works of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-wave feminists (which also include A LOT of men) and explore their thoughts on how gender and sexuality intersect with class, race, fashion norms, beverage choices (latte v. black coffee?), and more! We watch documentaries, youtube videos, and short films also. Please contact me if you have questions or want to find out more. Elizabeth Way, wayea@wfu.edu
