WGS Welcomes Dr. Jeff Solomon, Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and English

Dr. Jeff Solomon comes to us from the University of Southern California, where he taught English and Gender Studies.

Dr. Solomon graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania, and went on to pursue an MFA in English (fiction) at the University of California-Irvine. He holds both an MA and a PhD in English Literature, with a Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Solomon is the recipient of several fellowships and awards, such as the James Prize for essay writing, the Edward W. Moses Awards for best fiction, which he won twice, and the Christopher Isherwood Foundation Fellowship. In 2009 he also won the prestigious Andrew J. Kappel Prize in Literary Criticism for Best Article of the Year in the journal Twentieth-Century Literature.

Dr. Solomon’s book, So Famous and So Gay: The Fabulous Potency of Truman Capote and Gertrude Stein, was published in May 2017 by the University of Minnesota Press. Several of his articles and essays have appeared in edited collections as well as in journals such as the Journal of Lesbian Studies, Twentieth-Century Literature; Studies in Gender and Sexuality, and Santa Monica Review. He has also published fiction (short stories) in edited collections as well as in journals.
