Dr. Clayton Named American Society of Civil Engineers Fellow
By Erin Marlow, Communications Specialist in the Office of the Dean of the College
Dr. Tricia Clayton, Associate Professor of Engineering and Associate Chair of the department, was named a 2026 Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The prestigious title of ASCE Fellow is held by only 3 percent of the organization’s members and honors individuals who have demonstrated longstanding ASCE service, unique subject-matter expertise, and excellence in leadership.
Dr. Clayton has dedicated years of service to shaping civil engineering education at the national level, including seven years with the ASCE Committee on Faculty Development in various positions. While on the committee, Dr. Clayton helped manage the ASCE’s Excellence in Civil Engineering Education Teaching Workshop – the same program Dr. Clayton credits for much of their success as an educator. Currently, Dr. Clayton serves as Chair of the national ASCE Committee on Workforce and Education.
Dr. Clayton’s research background focuses on earthquake engineering, including analyzing how existing structures will perform during earthquakes and developing new structural systems with improved seismic performance.
“I feel very honored to be named an ASCE Fellow,” said Dr. Clayton. “Early in my career, many of the role models that had the biggest impact on me in terms of what I wanted to become as a researcher and educator were also Fellows of ASCE and its various institutes. It’s an honor to be recognized at that level.”
Dr. Clayton’s other recognitions include the 2024 Engineering Unleashed Fellowship by the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN), the 2018 ASCE New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2017 ASCE Moisseiff Award, and the 2017 Early Career Faculty Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
