Dr. John Tomlinson Wins 2026 Excellence in Advising Award
The 2026 Excellence in Advising Award goes to Dr. John Tomlinson, newly promoted to Teaching Professor of Chemistry and Director of Pre-Health Advising.
Dr. Tomlinson forms long-term mentoring relationships with students through advising, programming, and his teaching of critical lower division Chemistry courses in the pre-health sequence. Each year, John has 300 individual advising meetings. Students and faculty alike have recognized his availability, accessibility, and tireless whole-person support for students inside and outside the classroom.
His impact is clearly displayed in our recent medical school outcomes: in the 2025 cycle,146 Wake Forest students applied to medical school, and 111 were admitted–an acceptance rate of 76%, well above the national average of 43%.
