The Wake Forest University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa selects Dr. Gary Miller for the 2026 Kulynych Family Omicron Delta Kappa Award. Serving as professor and chair for Health and Exercise Science, Dr. Miller leads a dynamic team while also prioritizing meaningful student connections and mentorship.     

As a professor at Wake Forest for more than 30 years, Dr. Miller embodies the teacher-scholar ideal; he teaches both upper-level classes and a First Year Seminar while maintaining an active research focus. His research includes investigating obesity and weight loss and studying the effects of dietary nitrates on exercise performance and various disease states.

The students of Omicron Delta Kappa recognize Dr. Miller for his engaging and caring demeanor. One student shared that “[Professor] Miller is the most passionate and caring professor I have ever had. He cares so deeply about his students and their success.” Another noted his commitment to “going on walks around campus, setting up meetings, and even playing pickleball with his students to emphasize his commitment to our wellbeing and success. His constant smile and genuine interest in our lives show just how much he cares.”
