Teacher-Scholar Legacies: Michael Hazen

By Eric Watts, Chair and Professor of Communication
Mike Hazen began his career at Wake Forest as a graduate student and, after earning his doctorate from the University of Kansas, he returned to Wake in 1974 as an assistant professor.
Dr. Hazen is considered the founding chair of the department of communication that exists today. He guided the small cohort of faculty in a nascent department that grew into the 26-faculty department today. Over the course of his career, Mike embodied the teacher-scholar ideal that has come to distinguish WFU.
