Bio

Dr. Mark Vail serves as the Judicial Liaison for the Honor and Ethics Council. In this role, Vail advises faculty members who encounter cases of potential student violations of the honor code in the academic context and oversees academic honor code cases in their pre-hearing phase. Vail joined Wake Forest in 2021, as the Worrell Chair of Politics and International Affairs. His research and teaching focus on the comparative political economy of advanced industrial countries with a particular emphasis on social and economic policy; industrial relations; political institutions; and the role of political ideas and ideologies in Western Europe. Previously, he was a Professor of Political Science and a Fellow at the Murphy Institute of Political Economy at Tulane University, where he also served on the judicial board for nine years. Vail holds a Ph.D. and Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University; and a Bachelor of Arts in the Plan II Honors Program from the University of Texas at Austin.
