By Erin Marlow, Communications Specialist, Office of the Dean of the College
Anna Henley, Associate Director of Academic Affairs, has been awarded the 2025 College Board of Visitors Staff Leadership Award. Established in 2020, this prestigious honor represents the highest recognition the College Board of Visitors awards an individual staff member.
“I am deeply honored and profoundly grateful to receive this staff leadership award. I’ve always considered myself more of a behind-the-scenes leader, so when I was notified of the award, I was truly shocked. This recognition is a powerful validation that impactful leadership is not defined by visibility alone. I am particularly appreciative of the supportive community and exceptional professional development opportunities provided by the University. These resources have been instrumental in fostering my growth, and I look forward to continuing my journey of learning and contributing to the success of our campus community,” said Henley.
Henley received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She began her career at Wake Forest in July 2012, as the administrative assistant for the departments of History and Study of Religions, where she quickly demonstrated her keen attention to detail and unwavering professionalism. In 2015, she joined the Office of the Dean of the College, beginning a trajectory of exceptional commitment to faculty and student success.
Throughout the past decade, Henley has become an indispensable member of the Dean’s Office team, working closely with several Associate Deans to organize and support essential functions related to faculty development. Her clear communication and ability to navigate complex academic processes — including tenure and promotion, research leaves, and program reviews — have made her a trusted resource for faculty and staff alike.
“Anna’s calm, diplomatic leadership sets a powerful example, allowing her to navigate complex situations gracefully. Her commitment to her work contributes deeply to the success of the College and University,” said Kim Wieters, Senior Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration and the 2023 winner of the CBOV Staff Leadership Award.
Often described as a reliable and thoughtful colleague, Henley is always willing to offer her time and expertise to help others. “She is an invaluable resource, consistently going above and beyond to support both faculty and students. She embodies the spirit of leadership and dedication that this award seeks to recognize,” said Associate Dean for Academic Planning Amanda Griffith.
Among Henley’s most significant contributions is her strong directorship of the Summer Session program. Her commitment to students’ seamless registration for Summer Session I and/or II and her effective coordination with academic departments and offices across the College ensures the program’s smooth operation from start to finish. Thanks to her efforts, Summer Session continues to offer robust opportunities for students who wish to graduate early, make space in their curriculum for an internship or study abroad, or add coursework while they are on campus between semesters.
“The Dean’s Office is incredibly fortunate to have Anna’s quiet talent and unwavering dedication enriching our work every day. In particular, Anna’s exceptional leadership of Summer Session exemplifies the dedication and strategic coordination that makes our College thrive. Her tireless work has created expanded opportunities for students and strengthens the fabric of our academic community year after year,” said Dr. Jackie Krasas, Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
In 2024, Henley was promoted to Associate Director of Academic Affairs, reflecting both her expanded responsibilities and growing influence across the College and with campus partners. This promotion is a testament to her collaborative spirit and remarkable ability to lead critical academic initiatives that shape the faculty and student experience.
Henley’s recognition with the Staff Leadership Award underscores not only her professional achievements but also the embodiment of Wake Forest’s Pro Humanitate motto. We congratulate Anna Henley as this year’s CBOV Staff Leadership Award recipient.
