Dr. Shannon Brady Awarded 2025 Reid-Doyle Prize for Excellence in Teaching
By Erin Marlow, Communications Specialist in the Office of the Dean of the College
The 2025 Reid-Doyle Prize for Excellence in Teaching goes to Dr. Shannon Brady. The Reid-Doyle Prize for Excellence in Teaching, established in 1971 and renamed in 1986, recognizes the generosity of the late Wilbur Doyle, who endowed the prize in honor of his philosophy professor A.C. Reid. The prize recognizes a tenure-track College faculty member who is still in the early part of their career.
Since joining the Department of Psychology in 2018 as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Brady has contributed to our campus community with her commitment to student success and psychology education. Her pedagogy, grounded in a collaborative approach to learning, fosters a keen sense of belonging and encouragement among her students.
Dr. Brady is skilled at creating opportunities for students to apply their knowledge to real-world experiences. Whether raising funds for the Freedom School’s literacy program or employing “interteaching” to promote peer collaboration, Dr. Brady consistently designs coursework that grows students’ skills beyond the classroom.
A testament to her dedication to student success, Dr. Brady has sought out opportunities to enhance her pedagogical approach. She has been involved in many of the CAT’s learning communities and helped organize the 2022 Inclusive Teaching Conference at Wake Forest.
When she is not teaching or mentoring, Dr. Brady is actively involved in multiple groups and initiatives across campus. She currently serves as Chair of the Community/Alumni Research Participation Pool for the Department of Psychology; is an alternate board member of the Institutional Review Board; a member of the Graduate Richter Scholarship Review Committee as well as a member of the Department of Psychology’s Undergraduate Studies Committee; an affiliated faculty member for the Race, Inequality, and Policy Initiative, and a faculty advisor for the student service club, Circle K International.
Her commitment to innovative teaching has truly enhanced our academic community, as reflected in her recent promotion with tenure to Associate Professor of Psychology starting this July.
For all of these reasons and more, the Dean and faculty congratulate Dr. Shannon Brady as this year’s deserving recipient.
