Bio

Dr. Anthony Marsh received his undergraduate degree with Honors and his master’s degree from the University of Western Australia and his Ph.D. from Arizona State University in Exercise Science. He came to Wake Forest in August 1996 after a year as a Lecturer at California State University-Sacramento. He is a Professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Science and an affiliate faculty member in the VT-WFU School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences and in Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Wake Forest School of Medicine. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts; received substantial external funding from the National Institutes of Health for this work in the prevention and amelioration of functional loss and mobility disability in older adults; is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Gerontological Society of America; and serves on the Editorial Board of Journals of Gerontology: Medical Sciences.

Dr. Marsh has served as the HES Graduate Program Director, as a member and Chair of the WFU Institutional Review Board, and as a member and Chair of the Research Advisory Council. He has served Wake Forest as an Associate Dean of the College since January 2016 and as Interim Dean of the College in 2022. He now serves as Senior Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
